In February 2026, TOKAN Foundation again partnered with Drug Aid Africa (@drugaidafrica) to donate essential drugs and medical supplies to five Children’s Centres across Lagos. From Ikeja to Isheri to Yaba to Idi-Araba, hundreds of boys and girls continued to receive much-needed medical support as part of the ongoing collaboration between TOKAN Foundation and Drug Aid Africa designed to ensure adequate access to basic healthcare within these facilities.

On Tuesday, 24th February, our team delivered essential drugs and medical supplies to the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun (SCCB) and the Correctional Centre for Senior Boys, Isheri (CCSB). On Wednesday, 25th February, the team continued deliveries to the Correctional Centre for Junior Boys, Birrel, Yaba (CCJB), the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi-Araba (SCCG), and the Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi-Araba (CCCG).

Donations included paracetamol, dewormers, antimalarials, cough syrups, amoxicillin antibiotics, antifungal and antibacterial creams, antacids, medical gloves, and gauze bandages.

These medicines and medical supplies will support the health and well-being of the children across these facilities and help ensure that common illnesses can be treated promptly. This follows our recent delivery to the Borstal Institution in Adigbe, Ogun State, on 14th February 2026.

At TOKAN Foundation, partnerships like these help us ensure that children in correctional centres receive not only education and legal support, but also the healthcare resources necessary for their well-being.

On Thursday, 19 February 2026, the TOKAN Foundation team attended the Open Day at St. Timothy’s College, where we currently support 7 students.

Two days later, on Saturday, 21 February 2026, we were also present at the Open/Visiting Day at Let It Shine Academy (LISA), a free secondary boarding school in Lagos, where we proudly support 19 students.

During both engagements, our team met one-on-one with each student’s teachers. We carefully reviewed academic performance, discussed social and behavioural development, and assessed overall emotional and mental well-being. Where improvement was needed, we explored practical strategies and agreed on clear next steps to ensure continued progress.

At TOKAN Foundation, our support goes beyond the payment of school fees and provision of school supplies. We believe in active monitoring, consistent engagement, and shared accountability, because true impact is measured not only by enrolment, but by growth. Sponsorship at TOKAN Foundation is not a one-time intervention, it is a sustained investment in each child’s holistic growth and long-term future.

It was heartwarming to see the boys excited to receive us, and we were encouraged by the positive feedback shared by their teachers regarding their progress and development.

Together, we are not just keeping children in school. We are walking with them every step of the way.

Compliments of the Season and welcome to our last Newsletter of 2025.

As we approach the close of 2025, we reflect with deep gratitude on a year defined by purpose, perseverance, and profound impact. The final quarter of the year, and the 1st Term of the 2025/2026 academic year, was especially meaningful, marked by sustained support for vulnerable children across education, welfare, and legal advocacy.

From January through December 2025, TOKAN Foundation and its legal arm, the Child Rights & Juvenile Justice Centre (CRJJC), remained steadfast in our shared mission: to ensure that no child or young person is denied a future of possibilities by providing education, welfare support, and access to child-centred justice that restores hope, dignity, and opportunity.

1st Term Report (September–December 2025)

During the 1st Term, TOKAN Foundation provided critical educational and welfare support to ensure stability, dignity, and continuity in learning for our beneficiaries.

Our School Supplies for School Children back to school drive enabled children to resume the academic session fully prepared. Between September and December 2025, a total of ₦6,351,500 (approximately USD $4,327) was expended on:

  • Payment of school fees and lesson fees for secondary school students

  • School bags, school shoes, sandals, belts, sportswear, and water bottles and other supplies

  • Textbooks and learning materials

  • Toiletries and essential welfare items

  • Daily lunch stipends for students throughout the term

  • School party fees

  • Projects and assignments support

  • Welfare support

  • Legal services through CRJJC

  • CRJJC Know Your Rights Initiatives

  • Monthly salary payments to secondary school teachers at the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (SCCG) and child minders/carers at the Children’s Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (CCCG)

These built on our year-long educational support programme, which also covered:

  • National examination fees (JAMB, Junior WAEC & Senior WAEC)

  • Post-UTME fees for 3 students

  • Payment of school fees 2 university students and accommodation for 1 student

Every Naira spent reflects our commitment to dignity, access to justice, and equal opportunity for every child.

Legal Advocacy through CRJJC

Through CRJJC, we maintained a strong and consistent presence in court, providing pro bono legal representation for children in conflict with the law. Our team stood in for children who could not stand alone, ensuring due process, fairness, and child-friendly procedures within the Child Justice System.

Welfare Check-Ins and Engagement

Our team conducted bi-weekly welfare visits to three children’s centres (CCJB, CCSB, and CCCG), ensuring continuity of care and emotional support. These visits also created space for positive engagement through activities such as:

  • Frisbee trainings

  • Movies

  • Games and recreational sessions

  • Social welfare support

These moments of play and connection were vital in promoting emotional well-being and restoring a sense of normalcy.

In the 2024/2025 Academic Year, TOKAN Foundation continued its mission of giving vulnerable children a fair chance at life. We provided educational, medical, social, and legal support, through CRJJC, that touched lives in deeply meaningful ways. With total donations of ₦14,142,470 (Fourteen Million, One Hundred and Forty-Two Thousand, Four Hundred and Seventy Naira) dozens of children who once had no access to school, healthcare, or legal protection were given the opportunity to learn, to heal, and to hope again.

Our medical partnerships with Drug Aid Africa reached over 500 children, ensuring they received essential care and supplies. At the same time, our legal advocacy through CRJJC secured the release of children from correctional centers, helping them return to their families and communities with renewed hope for the future.

Throughout the year, we also maintained close relationships with the five Children’s Correctional Centers in Lagos (SCCG, CCCG, SCCB, CCJB, CCSB). In these centers, we stood beside children in conflict with the law, those in need of protection, and those beyond parental control. Our support included scholarships, daily meals, medical treatment, legal services, and in many cases, covering the salaries of teachers so that education within the centers remained consistent and of quality.

Every intervention was more than just an act of service; it was a lifeline, a reminder to each child that they are seen, valued, and deserving of a brighter tomorrow.

We are deeply grateful our trustees, donors, volunteers, and collaborators, who continue to ensure that TOKAN Foundation and CRJJC beneficiaries are realizing their full potential both in school and at home.

Our beneficiaries once again had an AMAZING time at the Evon Labs Summer Bootcamp for Teens 2025, held from August 4th–8th! Over the course of five impactful days, the participants immersed themselves in the exciting world of 3D design and printing—gaining skills that will shape their futures by fostering creativity, problem-solving, and innovation.

This year, Evon Labs generously offered full scholarships to 10 teenagers—5 girls and 5 boys—to attend the bootcamp, valued at ₦100,000 per child. These children, all beneficiaries of TOKAN Foundation, received this life-changing opportunity completely free of charge, thanks to Evon Labs’ continued commitment to youth empowerment and inclusion.

Even more heartwarming is the fact that this is Evon Labs’ second year in a row extending this generosity to TOKAN Foundation. After hosting a similar programme in 2024, they were so impressed by the enthusiasm and potential of our beneficiaries that they eagerly reached out again this year to include them in this transformative experience.

TOKAN Foundation was proud to support the programme by providing transportation and lunchtime snacks for the children during the week, ensuring that no logistical barrier stood in the way of their full participation and enjoyment.

We are incredibly grateful to Evon Labs for their continued partnership and investment in our children’s development. Together, we are opening doors, inspiring minds, and building a future where every child—regardless of background—can dream, learn, and thrive.

Stay tuned to see what these young innovators do next!

Happy New Year and welcome to our first Newsletter of 2025. In this letter, we wanted to keep you up to date with what happened in the 1st Term (September – December 2024) and Back to School activities for the 2nd Term (January 2025).

1st Term (September – December 2024) Report

With your help, in the 1st Term of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, we provided educational, social, medical, and legal support through the Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Centre (“CRJJC”). We also  partnered with We Run the World Girls (WRTWG) for Painting Smiles 2.0; celebrated CRJJC’s 2nd Anniversary which also hosted phase II of its Know Your Rights Initiative for over 200 children in three correctional centres across Lagos.

At TOKAN Foundation, we believe that access to quality education is a basic human right, and no child should be so denied because of their or their parent’s socio-economic status, disability, gender, amongst other factors. Further, education can only be impactful when a child is fully supported in all the ways that they need. Since 2018, we have ensured that hundreds of marginalised children have access to quality education by providing tuition scholarships, daily lunch stipends, school supplies, after-school and national examination preparatory lessons, social support, and legal representation in court through our Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Center (@CR_JJC). We also established the Special Approved School in January 2023 for secondary school-aged girls within the Special Correctional Center for Girls (SCCG) in Idi-Araba, Lagos.

To continue our important work to fullfil our goal of  providing children everywhere with access to quality education and welfare, we provided the following support valued at ₦5,762,200 (Five Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty-Two Thousand, Two Hundred Naira):

  • Tuition scholarships and Textbooks – 43 children
  • Daily lunch stipends – 43 children
  • School bags, shoes, and other supplies – 102 children
  • Monthly Salaries for Secondary School Class Teachers – 4 teachers at Special Correctional Center for Girls (SCCG)
  • Legal support – 6 children

Top row: 1st Term supplies list for 4 Children's Centers (CCJB, CCSB, CCCG and SCCG); Purchased supplies for the 4 Centers; Supplies donated to SCCG Bottom row: Supplies donated to CCCG; Supplies donated to CCJB; School bags worn by the girls at SCCG

We also ran and sponsored other activities for hundreds of children across Lagos:

  • Painting Smiles 2.0 collaboration with We Run the World Girls foundation in December 2024 to provide catering and baking training to 50 girls
  • Donation of Signposts/banners to the Children’s Correctional Center for Girls, Idi-Araba (CCCG)
  • Skills Acquisitions trainings for Children’s Correctional Center for Girls, Idi-Araba
  • Payments for school end-of-year parties, because every child has a right to play!

Social and Other Support:

We continued our regular social visits to all the Children’s Correctional Center across Lagos. We also purchased phones for our first University beneficiaries who recently graduated Secondary School. This support is part of our mission to adequately empower our beneficiaries to become self-sufficient and positively-impacting members of their communities.

Court Representation

Between September and December, CRJJC’s network of volunteer lawyers represented 6 children in a total of 14 court appearances for various offences, expending dozens of pro bono hours on behalf of our clients. Filing and other court fees are paid for by TOKAN Foundation for children whose parents are unable to afford same.

Know Your Rights Initiative

In November 2024, CRJJC hosted Phase II of the Know Your Rights Initiative across three correctional centres for children in Lagos. The first event was held on 16 November 2024 at the Special Correctional Centre for Junior Boys, Oregun (“SCCB”); a combined event was held on 23 November 2024 for the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (“SCCG”) and Children’s Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (“CCCG”). The events were coordinated by a volunteer team of experienced lawyers, law students, and other volunteers. The lawyer-speakers explained Child Rights and Child Justice Administration laws to keep them informed and protected as they continue to pass through the Nigerian justice system.

Back to School – 2nd Term

 School Supplies for School Children

The 2nd Term of the 2024/2025 Academic Year commenced on 6 January 2025 for millions of students across Nigeria. It was no different for the children we support. Within the first 2 weeks, TOKAN Foundation purchased and delivered school bags, school shoes and sandals, stationary, and other supplies to students in four Children’s Centers across Lagos. Supplies were made based on specific requests from the children and their guardians, who have a greater understanding of their needs.

In the 3rd Term and Long Vacation of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, we provided educational, social, medical, and legal support through the Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Centre (“CRJJC”) to dozens of children; we celebrated our 6th Anniversary with a benefit sale; CRJJC conducted its Know Your Rights Initiative for children in five correctional centres across Lagos; and our Trustee and Chair, Tope Tokan-Lawal, received the Distinguished Merit Award as an Icon of Hope.

In ensuring that our beneficiaries continue to have access to quality education and welfare, we provided the following support valued at ₦2,950,454 (Two Million, Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty-Four Naira) in the 3rd Term and Long Vacation of the 2023/2024 Academic Year:

  • Tuition scholarships and Textbooks – 8 students

  • UTME fees – 2 students

  • Medical support – 3 students

  • Secondary school class teachers – Monthly Salary, teachers at SCC Girls and SCC Boys

  • Legal support – 9 child offenders

Other activities:

  • Donation of essential drugs and supplies to the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (“SCCG”), and the Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (“CCG”) in partnership with Drug Aid Africa.

  • Donation of TV to Correctional Center for Junior Boys in Birrel, Yaba (“CCJB”).

  • Celebration of graduates at the Correctional Center for Junior Boys in Birrel, Yaba (“CCJB”), and the Correctional Center for Senior Boys in Isheri (“CCSB”).

  • Purchase of anniversary t-shirts for 6th Anniversary benefit sale.

Social and Other Support:

We continued our weekly social visits to both CCJB and CCSB. In addition, we purchased a smart television for CCJB with the support of an anonymous donor. For the older boys in CCSB, we worked with the center to ensure that the older children obtained NIN, BVN, and bank accounts. We also secured phones for 4 boys who recently turned eighteen. These phones were donated by our sponsors and is part of our mission to adequately empower our beneficiaries to become self-sufficient and positively-impacting members of their communities. We have also committed to support the older girls at CCG with similar provisions.

6th Anniversary Celebrations and Benefit Sale

To celebrate our 6th Anniversary on 14 June, we commissioned two paintings by Victoria Oniosun, titled Mother, Provider (2024) and Graduation (2024). Proceeds from this auction will go directly into our work, funding the welfare of more children in Nigeria. The auction is managed by June Creative Art Advisory(JCAA). To place a bid, kindly contact Seun Alli at +2348179830800, hq@jcaalagos.com, or jcaalagos@gmail.com.

Our commemorative t-shirts of “Mother, Provider” (2024) and “Graduation” (2024) are also available for sale at ₦20,000 each.

Legal Support through the Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Center (“CRJJC”)

Court Representation

Between April and August, CRJJC’s volunteer lawyers represented 9 children in Court for various offences and secured the release of 2 children (a boy and a girl). We also secured bail for 2 other children ensuring that they returned to their families and were able to resume their education during the trial. In this period, our volunteer lawyers appeared in court 19 times, expending dozens of pro bono hours on behalf of our clients whose parents only have to pay for filing fees. Filing and other court fees are paid for by TOKAN Foundation for children whose parents are unable to afford same.

Know Your Rights Initiative

In June and July 2024, CRJJC hosted the Know Your Rights Initiative across five correctional centres for children in Lagos. The first event was held on 15 June 2024 at the Special Correctional Centre for Junior Boys, Oregun (“SCCB”); a combined event was held on 22 June 2024 for the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (“SCCG”) and Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba (“CCG”); another combined event was held on 13 July 2024 for CCJB and CCSB. The events were coordinated by a team of experienced lawyers, law students, and other volunteers. The lawyer-speakers discussed Child Rights (under the Nigerian Constitution and laws) and Child Justice Administration.
