In March 2024, TOKAN Foundation partnered with Drug Aid Africa to support children in need, especially those in four correctional centers, with the donation of essential drugs and medical supplies. Drug Aid Africa is an NGO with a primary focus on saving lives by providing medical drug supplies and support to low income patients thereby addressing the basic needs of healthcare in Nigeria and across Africa. Intended as a continuing collaboration, the first set of donations were made to the Special Correctional Center for Girls in Idi-Araba (“SCCG”) and Correctional Center for Junior Boys in Birrel, Iwaya-Yaba (“Birrel”) on 9 March 2024, and the Special Correctional Center for Boys in Oregun (“SCCB”) and Correctional Center for Senior Boys in Isheri-Olowora (“Isheri”) on 23 March 2024. The donation of essential drugs and medical supplies, including items like paracetamol, dewormers, antimalarials, and antibiotics, will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the health and well-being of these children. Additionally, the inclusion of items such as mosquito nets and sanitary pads shows a comprehensive approach to addressing the various needs of the children, including hygiene and prevention of diseases like malaria. Follow-up donations throughout the year will ensure continued support and sustainability of the initiative, further benefiting the children and the centers they reside in.
TOKAN Foundation also partnered with Dr Oluwaseun Ayotola of DOOA Health Services Limited to provide free medical consultancy services to the children at the correctional centers in Birrel and Isheri. DOOA Health Services is a health care service provider dedicated to delivering prompt and effective health care to clients at home. At the centers, Dr. Ayotola reviewed and evaluated each child's health status and formulated effective treatment plans. The prescribed medicines were then provided through the collaborative effort of TOKAN Foundation and Drug Aid Africa, thus further ensuring that the children have access to the necessary medications. Dr. Ayotola also engaged with the children on proper hygiene by educating them on the importance of maintaining good health practices. Additionally, he committed to providing monthly routine health checks and on-call services. This holistic approach to healthcare not only addresses the immediate medical needs of the children but also empowers them with knowledge and resources to take charge of their health in the long term.
